In the midst of the media industry’s mourning after the sudden death of astute journalist Teboho Letshaba, the Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana has encouraged youths to take a leaf from his well-lived life.

News about the award-winning journalist’s passing was announced on Tuesday (04/04). According to a statement issued by his employer, SABC, Letshaba passed away after a short illness.

Sello Dithebe, spokesperson for Premier Dukwana, said the Free State government was saddened by Letshaba’s passing.

“Thus, Premier Dukwana urges the youth to pick up the pen and use it to inform, educate, and entertain the various demographics of SABC listeners and viewers.

“The Premier recognizes a valuable asset the Free State had in Letshaba. He has left a void in the industry, which will take many years to fill because of his near state of irreplaceability,” said Dithebe.

Born and bred in Viljoenskroon, Letshaba (40) held the position of provincial editor at the SABC in the Free State, and was based at the broadcaster’s bureau in Bloemfontein. He held other managerial positions within the broadcaster.

Mandla Mbusi, provincial operations manager at the broadcaster, said the broadcaster and the editorial team were trying to come to terms with Letshaba’s passing.

“We are trying to cope with the grief and loss of Letshaba. He would bring you current affair stories, real stories affecting people lives. We have lost a giant in the media industry and as the broadcaster,” said Mbusi.

A memorial service will be held next Wednesday, 12 April, in Bloemfontein while his funeral will be on Saturday, 15 April, in Viljoenskroon.
