DURBAN – The finest of Mzansi’s fashion came together in an explosion of creative colour, design and originality – sporting some wild, wacky and wonderful creations with models strutting their stuff at the Hollywoodbets Durban July on Saturday.
Drawing inspiration from the ‘Marvels of Mzansi’ theme, there were some creations that pushed the boundaries of conventional themes.
Making a comeback after a six-year absence, Durban designer Pregasen Govender, said his creations drew on the beautiful blue waters of our beaches and combined with Indian jewelry. “If you think about it, what makes Durban great, it’s our beaches and our cultures, including the influence of Japanese samurais and our lovely flora.”
Pietermaritzburg designer Pamela Shabane said she drew her inspiration from the black and white stripes of our zebras and South Africa. “If you think about South Africa, you think about us being black and white. I wanted to bring that together and for it to be about us, hence the flag”.
