The criminal case of the three men arrested regarding the alleged theft of antiretroviral (ARV) medication and a burglary at the Boshof Clinic in the Free State is to continue in the Boshof Magistrate’s Court on 23 March. The suspects are Josa Vakele Bonane (42), Moeketsi Ishmael Nonyane (28), and Matshidiso Makoko (51).
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police, confirmed the trio was granted bail of R1 000 each during their reappearance in court on 9 February. They first appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court where the matter was then transferred to continue in Boshof.
Thakeng said the investigation was ongoing. The trio face charges of possession of suspected stolen property, and business burglary.
The case against them followed their arrest in Bloemfontein earlier this month after the police found various ARV medication in a silver Toyota Hilux extended cab bakkie the suspects were travelling with. They were apprehended by the Mangaung Metro Tactical Response team at the Northridge Mall in Helicon Heights, Bloemfontein, after receiving reliable information. The medication is estimated to be worth R85 000.
A preliminary investigation by the police revealed this life-saving medication had been stolen during a burglary at a clinic on 31 January.
Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health, confirmed an investigation was underway regarding the involvement of the employee, Makoko. He is employed as an emergency medical services (EMS) official in Boshof.
