The Free State’s top-three matriculants in the 2021 National Senior Certificate examinations are excited to start the next chapter of their lives as university students.
Chané Nel of the Hoër Meisieskool Oranje in Bloemfontein, Tlotliso Mofokeng of the Mookodi Secondary School in Qwaqwa and Tsebo Molatodi of the Winburg Combined School attributed their academic success to the continued support of their family and teachers.
Chané, the province’s best matriculant, achieved nine distinctions. She will study medicine at the Stellenbosch University.
Tlotliso claimed the second position in the Free State by obtaining seven distinctions. He intends to study mechanical engineering at the University of Cape Town.
Tsebo, who claimed the third spot, is headed to the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg to study actuarial sciences.
These three were among the Free State’s top-100 matriculants who were honoured at the province’s well-done function at the Central University of Technology, Free State, on Friday (21/01).
All 100 learners reportedly received laptops, travelling bags and cash prizes.
They will also be awarded bursaries to study at any higher education institution of their choice. The bursaries cover tuition fees, transport and meals.
Courtesy of various partners of the Free State Department of Education, the learners also received vouchers, backpacks and starter packs – containing a kettle, iron, duvet set and bath towel – as a token of appreciation.
