The Bloemfontein-based second-tier outfit BlackCross FC will look to exploit the advantage of playing at home during the Nedbank Cup last-32 elimination match against Venda Football Academy.
The teams are scheduled to clash on 11 February, with the winner outomatically progressing to the next leg of the tournament.
The fixture will be played at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. Kick-off is at 15:00.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) stages all fixtures of the tournament at similar times to make provision for when the clubs have to play extra time in the event that no winner is produced after regulation time.
The host of the upcoming clash will have to play hard in order to pull an upset in the upcoming fixture against National First Division (NFD) opponents from Limpopo, Venda Academy.
The visitors have shown improvement in their overall performance, having climbed the log ladder from rock bottom in the professional advancement league.
This indicates that BlackCross, will have to dig deep and pull out all the stops.
The team from Limpopo is in the 11th spot on the log and are fighting hard to avoid relegation.
Last year, BlackCross was eliminated in the preliminary stage of this tournament by the Botshabelo-based D’ General.
Having this time around secured a spot in the last-32 group stage of the tournament, the team’s current coach, Sello Ntuli, will strive to make history by guiding BlackCross to the last-16 group stage.
The competition offers exciting incentives.
These include qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
TS Galaxy FC remains the only team in the lower rank to have won the Nedbank Cup as its first trophy.
This was after beating Kaizer Chiefs 1 – 0 through a penalty shoot-out in 2019.
Galaxy went on to gain promotion to the top-flight division, the PSL, and is among the clubs that are featuring in the last-32 group stage.
