The three male suspects arrested for possession of antiretroviral (ARV) medication and burglary at Boshof Clinic are reappearing in the Boshof Magistrates’ Court today. They are reappearing to apply for bail following a brief appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, 2 February.

The matter was transferred to Boshof for further hearing. One of the culprits is an employee of the provincial Department of Health. They are Josa Vakele Bonane (42), Moeketsi Ishmael Nonyane (28), and Matshidiso Gabriel Makoko (51) who is employed at the emergency medical services (EMS) in Boshof.

The men face charges of possession of suspected stolen property, and business burglary following their arrest by the Mangaung Metro Tactical Response Team after finding life-saving medication worth R85 000 in their possession. The medication includes: Tribuss, Sonke Efavirenz, Heftenam, Kovatrax, Teevir, Kavimum Paed, Odimune, Lamivudine, and Reydin.

Captain Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police, said a preliminary investigation revealed the medication had been stolen during a break-in at the clinic on 31 January. He said the police pounced on the suspects in Bloemfontein at Helicon Heights, in the Bayswater suburb, after receiving reliable information. Thakeng said boxes containing ARV tablets were retrieved from a Silver Toyota Hilux extended cab the suspects were travelling with.
