Two suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping and brutal murder of Moeketsi Selemela (46) are remanded in custody after the postponement of the case to 28 September.
They were due to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today regarding Selemela’s murder on 17 July.
The two men’s arrest is the culmination of the police investigation into the ambiguous circumstances surrounding Selemela’s kidnapping and brutal murder.
The deceased was a member of the Bloemfontein-based Centre City Titanium Athletics Club, whose members came in numbers to the court in the hope to see the suspects.
According to the police, Selemela was found dead in the rear seat of a Free State-registered Toyota Hilux, parked on the N1 outside Bloemfontein. This was after being kidnapped by two unknown, armed men, who allegedly took him at gunpoint from his house in Fichardtpark hours earlier.
According to the police, the suspects wore face masks so they would not be recognised.
Selemela’s murder allegedly started with a robbery whereby one suspect pushed the deceased’s wife, Tebatso Selemela, back into the yard at gunpoint, demanding cash. Apparently, she was about to go jogging when she was surprised by the armed suspects. She was allegedly locked inside her bedroom with her two children, aged 14 and 4 years- with their hands and feet bound. The police reported that the woman managed to untie herself and thereafter went out looking for help
