The Springbok legend Frans Steyn received two awards. In addition to being named the sportsman of the year, he was also honoured with the title of sport star of the year. The previous sport star was Protea netball player Karla Pretorius.


The province’s leading sport stars came together for the first time since 2019 to be honoured at the Free State Sport Stars awards function. Sportsmen and women, sponsors and guests attended the glamorous event, presented by Central24 and the University of the Free State (UFS) on Thursday, 13 October, at the Monte Bello Estate, Bloemfontein. Achievers were acknowledged for their performance in the past year. Mlungisi Louw took the photos.
