The newly elected executive committee of the Bloemfontein Toastmasters Club aims at taking the organisation to greater heights and continued to positively influencefostering community development.

Elected at an ordinary meeting held last month, 1 July, the committeeexecutive will serve a one-year term in office. These members are Theo Penning(vice president public relations), Annemarie van der Walt(treasurer), Gerben van Niekerk(president), Hannatjie Penning(vice president public relations), Mampoi Jonas(vice president education), Zanele Mngomezulu(secretary) and Louis Lagrange(sergeant at arms).

The Bloemfontein club has 16 paid members.

It isThe club forms part of Toastmasters International, a non-profit organisation that is a world leader in communication and leadership development.

The organisation focuses on strengthening relations, as well as furthering public speaking abilitiesy presentation of speeches and leadership development skills.

“Members are equipped with basic skills to present speeches in front of an audience, at ease. You don’t join the Toast­masters because you can talk well, but to learn how to speak with ease,” said Hannatjie Penning, president public relations.

Provision is also made for a section for impromptu speaking.
“Where you learn how to think on your feet, as well as a leadership path.”The club presents a certificatethat to candidates who completeing the programme.

The committee holds meetings every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, at the Old Students Club in Krige Street, Brandwag.

Penning saidinterested members of the public were welcomeallowed to attend these meetings.

The next meetings are scheduled to be held on 10 August and 24 August, starting at 17:15.
