Safa is mourning the death of administrator Lehlohonolo Douglas Mokhali (38), who served as regional executive officer of Safa Mangaung Metro.
He reportedly died on Wednesday (24/08) after not being able to recover from a short illness.
A memorial service paying tribute to Mokhali will be held today (31/08) in the Sefuthi Hall in Botshabelo, starting at 13:00. A funeral service will be held on Saturday (03/09) at 08:00 in the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium.
Mokhali served as official in local structures in his hometown of Botshabelo. His ability and dedication saw him gradually rise in the ranks of Safa to serve in the executive committee.
His passing has sent shockwaves throughout the sporting fraternity.
“We are all shocked by his sudden death. This happened after a short illness, and we were hopeful he would recover,” stated Hlapane Matobako, president of Safa Mangaung Metro.
“He was a volunteer in sport and a person who for months continued to perform administration duties for football without financial reward or a stipend. He did so without complaining.
“He distinguished himself as a hard-working individual with a willingness to learn more in the administration of football.
“This underlined his passion for sport, football in particular, to which he was very committed. Mokhali had passion in football development.”
Mokhali was present at all events involving Safa.
“We did not expect to experience any Safa activities involving the Free State clubs without his presence.
“May his soul rest in peace,” said Matobako.
