An all-night dance event will take place at Bloemfontein’s Windmill Casino when the Rockettz New Generations performs on Friday, 30 August. The rebranded music band from Cape Town will perform in the Diamond Lil’s venue of the casino.
The new generation has its roots stemming from the original Rockets, having performed with the original members of the erstwhile band whose rich legacy spanned over five decades in Cape Town and also in the greater South African music industry.
The original Rockets, vividly remembered for their hit song “Situations” and for being among the 22 top artists in South Africa, contributed to the success of the Concert in the Park, which was a benefit concert held in Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg, on 12 January 1985. This event, held in association with Radio 702, is reportedly the biggest ever concert in South Africa to have raised proceeds of more than R450 000 in aid of Operation Hunger, a South African charity.
It is reported that about 125 000 people purchased tickets and packed the stadium (a 62 567 seater) beyond its brink.
The vibrant Rockettz group’s tour to Bloemfontein is part of a exciting new chapter under the leadership of Manuel Lospe, who carries the band as vocalist. Other members are Jonathan Latola (lead guitarist), Carlos Griffin (drums), Donovan Dyers (bass) and Vinashco Williams (keyboard).
The band was rebranded last year to its current name, embarking on a new journey showcasing their rich music talent, and releasing two new singles – “Believe in Love Again” and a collaboration, “I’m in Love”, with Dr Victor.
The explosive live performance will take audience members on a trip down memory lane of retro classics to modern-chart toppers-think pop, rock, RnB, disco, old school and everything in between. . The audience can expect an inspiring performance from this quartet, ranging from hits by Queen, Bryan Adams, Lionel Richie, Prince and Bob Marley.
Tickets are available at R160 via quicket.co.za and R200 at the door, with the show set to start at 19:00 and run until 23:00.
