Vandalism of infrastructure and a spate of copper theft has resulted in damages of more than R1 million.
This is according to Centlec, the Mangaung Metro Municipality’s power distributor.
Lele Mamatu, spokesperson of the entity, said multiple incidents of theft and vandalism were recorded between January and February.
Over this period, law enforcement agents apprehended at least 13 copper thieves.
Mamatu attributes this success to the Langenhovenpark Community Policing Forum that helped to track down suspects.
