The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has been ordered by the Pretoria High Court to publish the 2021 matric results on all media platforms.
This ruling comes after AfriForm’s urgent application to revoke the department’s decision to not publish the results on public platforms on Tuesday (18/01).
The lobby had hauled Minister Angie Motshekga and her department over the coals on this matter.
Part of the order states that the publication of the matric results should not reflect the first names and surnames of the learners, but rather that only the unique system of examination numbers may appear.
Judge Anthony Millar said not everyone had access to the internet, and that there were some who lived outside the proximity of their high schools and might not be able to access their results in time, or even at all, to commence with their tertiary studies.
The national matric results for learners in public schools are expected to be announced by Motshekga.
The DBE had confirmed that the 2021 matric results would be released on Thursday (20/01) and that results would be available at schools on Friday.
Altogether 36 226 full-time and 7 120 part-time candidates wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam in the Free State in 2021.
