Rich vein of form has earned Nthabiseng Majiya (18) the prestigious accolade of Young Player of the Season in the South African Football Association (Safa) 2021 season. She was voted as the deserving recipient at Safa’s year-end award ceremony held on (27/03) in Sandton, Johannesburg.
This reward Nthabiseng’s exploit for her team Richmond United FC in the Hollywoodbets Super League, South Africa’s premier women’s football league and in South Africa’s national junior women’s team: u.20 team (Basetsana). She represented the country as u.20 national women’s team since 2020.
This is first-ever prestigious award for the prolific teenager from the Free State’s tiny town of Philippolis in the Xhariep region. “I’m very thankful to my parents support and team for my achievement. I’m happy to have won first-ever award in my football career and it’s a great motivation,” the talented goal-getter said.
Nthabiseng was one of three contenders for the Golden Boot Award, presented each football season to a player that finishes with most goals. The top goalscorer award was shared by Andisiwe Mgcoyi of Mamelodi Sundowns and Nompumelelo Nyandeni of JVW FC. The pair each scored 27 goals.
Nthabiseng finished as the second top goal-scorer with 20-goals in her maiden season of the country’s professional league. She was influential for her side, scoring 20-goals of 44 the club managed to score in league matches of this just-ended season of 2021.
Nthabiseng previously played for Bloemfontein Strikers and recruited by Richmond by talent scouter Edwin Lisene, currently coaching the based in De Aar in the Northern Cape side.
