The Bloemfontein supporters branch of football giant Orlando Pirates FC will celebrate a milestone anniversary on Saturday (11/06).

It is believed to be the oldest supporters branch in the Free State, having been established in 1972.

“The branch was formed on 11 June, therefore we decided to celebrate this milestone of existence on a corresponding date,” said Pule Pitso, founding member.

“We will be paying homage to departed founding members and surviving ones. They were instrumental in laying a solid foundation for the existence of the branch.

“Their contribution came in different forms, like the promotion of the club, the recruitment of supporters and the registering of membership.”

The branch was founded in the Zenzele Hall in Phahameng.

“We are delighted that, 50 years on, this branch still exists. During this period members have been travelling to support the club, one of the oldest clubs still existing in the country and in the Premier Soccer League,” said Pitso.

“This is a celebration to share with supporters of at least ten branches in different towns, with the hope to inspire them to keep alive membership and reflect on the importance of supporters in the history of football.

“It takes great sacrifice of fans to keep branches alive.”
