The Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (Pacofs) has opted to appoint a male for the powerful position of chief executive officer (CEO), after having a woman serve a term in this role.
After an intensive search, the council announced on Tuesday 8 November that Themba Dlamini was selected as the new CEO on a five-year term, effective from 1 November.
Sharon Snell acted in the position since April last year. The position became vacant over the 23 months following Peter Pedlar’s sacking barely 14 months after being appointed to serve a five-year term. He succeeded Greg Segoneco.
The entity stated that Dlamini was the ideal candidate and seasoned professional to steer the organization.
Boasting a master’s degree in Development Economics and a BA-Honours degree in Economics, Dlamini has held numerous senior positions across various industries. Dlamini has held the position of CEO at the Office of the Public Protector of South Africa, the National Gambling Board, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), and the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA). He has also served as the managing director of the Black Management Forum.
“As council, we are excited that we have finally found a CEO who is experienced and fit for purpose. We trust that as part of a collective of senior management, Dlamini will provide leadership that will change the organisational culture at Pacofs so that Pacofs achieves its organisational mission,” said advocate Thato Moeeng, Pacofs council chairperson.
This marks nine new appointments in strategic positions by the entity. Of these, six are women. They are Napo Masheane (artistic director), Adri van Veijeren (senior manager: marketing), Jane Mpholo (audience development specialist), Lethabo Khumalo (artistic coordinator), Andiswa Mgedezi (marketing administrative assistant) and Anastacia Mashaba (artistic administrative assistant).
The other two men appointed are Fapane Motloutsi (human resources manager) and Mzwakhe Mabaso (senior manager: facilities).
