The Dis-Chem Foundation and Absa Group have joined forces to support victims of the collapsed Jagersfontein tailings dam. The two private entities have donated R100 000 each.

The two entities’ response aims at alleviating the impact of the disaster on numerous people, especially school children. The donation includes basic essentials such as toiletries and food.

The organisations stated the gesture was in line with the belief that, as corporate entities, they have a role to play in making society sustainable by improving the lives of individuals while relieving the burden on struggling communities.

Absa has pledged to match donations made by Absa Rewards partners in aid of the disaster-stricken residents of Jagersfontein.

“It is unimaginable for families whose loved ones have gone missing, especially knowing that search efforts have been called off.

“Residents were left with just the clothes on their backs. Homes and livestock were destroyed, and buildings are continuing to crumble,” stated the foundation.
