It was all hands on deck on Monday (18/07) to ensure the success of the 67 Minutes campaign for Mandela Day in honour of former president Nelson Mandela’s humanitarian legacy.
Multitudes of people came together to drive goodwill gestures on this day, which coincides with the birthday of the late statesman, who was born on 18 July 1918.
On this day the public of South Africa is encouraged to volunteer to contribute towards nation-building, in addition to reaching out to their fellow man.
The day is also celebrated globally, with people embarking on various acts of goodwill.
Locally, the Mediclinic Bloemfontein’s staff made a donation to Child Welfare and Childline Free State in the form of repurposed glass bottles filled with ingredients that each constitutes a wholesome meal for four people.
The private hospital honoured Mandela’s legacy under the theme “Do what you can with what you have, where you are.”
The Mangaung Retired Teachers’ Association (Mareta) donated food to the Bophelo HIV/AIDS Centre at the St Peter’s Methodist Church, while Central24 – of which Express is a publication – served nutritious soup to elderly people at the Rainbow Old Age Home in Heidedal.
