The Free State Department of Health is to initiate disciplinary proceedings against two of the three
Harrismith-based nurses facing criminal charges of theft of suspected stolen goods, namely medication.
Medication identified as property of the state was allegedly used at an illegal clinic that the suspects operated from in the Harrismith CBD.
Mary Mosia (57) and Ntsoaki Sebakamotse (53) are employees of the provincial department while Maria Monei (35) works for a private hospital.
Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson of the department, said the two nurses still in the department’s employ were suspended as part of the investigation into their involvement in the alleged theft of medication and operation of an unlicensed clinic.
Mvambi said the department will follow all due processes to ensure that both internal and external procedures apply against the culprits.
The Phuthaditjhaba Highway Patrol and Phuthaditjhaba K9 units arrested the trio on 14 September.
The police confiscated medication consisting of pills, and equipment such as examination stretchers among others.
The suspects were apprehended after police received reliable information on their dealings.
The Harrismith Magistrate’s Court released the suspects on a warning and has ordered that they reappear in court on 2 November.
