A 35-year-old man is set to appear in the Heilbron Magistrates’ Court on Friday (31/03), charged with being in possession of counterfeit cigarettes. This followed his arrested by the Heilbron police on Wednesday (29/03).
Sgt Martin Xuma, spokesperson of the Free State police, said members arrested the suspect after receiving intelligence-driven information from a concerned community member.
He said the suspect was confronted while he was delivering the boxes of cigarettes.
“He was found in possession of several boxes in the bakkie he was driving. Further questioning of the suspect led to the discovery of several more boxes at his residence,” said Xuma.
He said the value of the confiscated boxes of counterfeit cigarettes is an estimated R175 000.
