A tale imagined around prominent former South African president Nelson Mandela will this week be reflected on stage in Bloemfontein, celebrating his life and marking 104 years since his birth.

This production, presented by Pacofs in association with the Ticket to the Moon Youth Theatre Company, will run in the André Huguenet Theatre from today (10/08) until Saturday.

This production is based on of one of the last stories renowned author Chris van Wyk wrote, Mr Hare Meets Mr Mandela.

The show is a stage adaptation of the book by Van Wyk with illustrations by Paddy Bouma.

It is directed by Daniel Keith Geddes, with a cast of four actors performing in English and Sotho.

Mr Hare Meets Mr Mandela is a tale about bravery and persistence, as well as the significance of being literate, something dear to the late Madiba’s heart.

This tale of how Mr Hare takes on the biggest lost-and-found adventure, which is not often heard, is set to wow theatre lovers.

Mr Hare finds an R200 note and, of course, it belongs to Mr Mandela because it has his face on it – or so the illiterate Mr Hare thinks.

So, Mr Hare sets off to return it to its rightful owner.

With a brand-new script, joyful music and characters aplenty, the show promises to be fun for the whole family, as well as to teach children the many wonders of stories and being able to read them.

The moral of the story is that if we do not learn from our experiences, we are bound to repeat them.

Tickets cost R80 per person or R60 for groups of five or more people and are available at the Pacofs booking office, which can be contacted on 051-447-7772. for
