The Botshabelo Regional Court has sentenced Thembekile Mqosana (44) to life imprisonment following the rape and murder of Lefahla Lentata in December 2019.

He received a life sentence for murder, ten years for rape, and three years for defeating the ends of justice.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Mqosana’s sentencing on 15 November is the culmination of in-depth probing and the uncovering of incriminating evidence that include DNA results and blood stains on the floor and the bed of the accused.

Further evidence was provided by one of the neighbours. The person told the court that he saw Mqosana carrying what looks like a human body which he disposed of on the street.

The victim’s body was found in the street, three days after she was seen arguing with the accused on 1 December 2019.

“In Botshabelo, domestic murders have become prevalent, and the court must send a message to the public this will not be tolerated,” said Magistrate Motshidisi Khuduga.

The court found the accused had failed to show any remorse, as he denied murdering Lentata.
