A hearing pertaining to the charge of culpable homicide involving the death of Mbuyiswa Buthelezi (15) during a community service delivery protest in the Beruit township in Qwaqwa is set to take place in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (28/07).
The teenage boy died on 26 June after a bakkie ran over him.
The incident occurred during a rowdy community protest over a power outage in the township in question.
The driver of the bakkie, Malawian national Kamiso Saidi (42), faces a charge of culpable homicide following his arrest regarding the boy’s death.
The driver briefly appeared in court on 28 June and was granted bail of R500.
Saidi was arrested together with four protesters, who are also expected to appear in court. They are Mkhwanazi Madoda (37), Moloi Mohlaodi (26), Tiisetso Lukana (37) and Tiisetso Ngoni (38).
These four men face charges of public violence, in which the police had to use stun grenades to disperse protesters.
The police have launched further investigation into the case of culpable homicide.
