The murder case against Ntsane Togowe is expected to resume in the Free State High Court on Monday (17/01).
Togowe, one of the four fugitives wanted in connection with the murder of tavern owner Alfred Lejoni “Chencha” Helepi, has been remanded in custody since his brief appearance in the Free State High Court on 9 December.
He was arrested in Lesotho, where he had been hiding, with the hope of bringing him to book for Helepi’s murder.
The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), which facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control, repatriated Togowe to South Africa on 8 December.
Early in 2018 Togowe was charged with murder and armed robbery with aggravating circumstances. A warrant for his rearrest was issued after he disappeared while on trial in October of the same year.
- The slain businessman, who had played for Moroka Swallows FC between 1965 and the late 1970s, was attacked and fatally shot on 29 March 2016. He was reportedly shot while having a shower in his house in Phahameng, Bloemfontein. The armed assailants allegedly took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene using Helepi’s vehicle. It was later found abandoned in Phelindaba.
