Traffic has been halted in Bloemfontein’s central business district (CBD) after a foetus was found in a black refuse bag, disposed of in the road. The police have temporarily closed off President Brand Street.

The foetus, wrapped in a plastic bag at the time it was discovered, was dumped on the corner of Elizabeth and President Brand Street, opposite the Supreme Court of Appeal and Fourth Raadsaal. The police have cordoned off the scene as part of their investigation.

An illegal abortion is suspected to be the reason why the foetus was disposed of.

Bystanders watched in dismay while the police conducted their investigation. Details surrounding the foetus’ disposal remain sketchy.
