The Bloemfontein-based performing group Mostabela Live Sessions will stage a music festival on Sunday, 12 June at the Cubana café, Bloemfontein.
The event is an attempt to get performing artists back on the stage after a two-year absence due Covid-19.
Genres featured will include RnB, Afro soul, Afro pop and Afro jazz.
“We plan to reignite the industry and to continue the development of artistry to the next level,” said Obakeng Mpshe, spokesperson.
“Artists depend largely on performances for income and to make a living.
“Those in the Mangaung district have not been performing because of the pandemic. Music followers have also suffered the impact.”
Mpshe said they hoped to galvanise support of both audience and performers.
“We believe live performances are key to get the sector back on track and to reconnect emotionally with fans, who can see their favourite performers live,” said Mpshe.
According to a World Economic Forum report in the wake of the pandemic, physical sales, which represent a quarter of recorded music revenues, went down by about one third, while digital sales fell by around 11%.
