One of the editors of Central24, of which Expressis a publication, received top honours at the annual awards function of the Forum of Community Journalists (FCJ).
Helena Barnard, editor of NoordkaapBulletin, was named the winner in the category for digital journalism at the AVBOB FCJ Awards ceremony, held in the Southern Sun Cape Sun hotel in Cape Town on Friday (04/08).
Barnard was also third in the journalist of the year category. Additionally, she was nominated in the categories for editorial comment, human interest and news photography.
Teboho Setena, editor of Express, was a sport photography and news photography finalist.
In total, a whopping 527 entries were received from all across South Africa for this year’s competition.
Other nominations from the Central24 group’s catalogue were for columns (Erica Pretorius, Bloem News), human interest stories, investigative reporting, news photography, the title of photographer of the year and journalist of the year (Charné Kemp, NoordkaapBulletin) and sport (Marti Will, Vista).
Two subeditors for Central24, Shirwan Newton and Inge Strydom, received nominations for headline writing.
The FCJ hosted its national seminar on Friday, with veteran journalist Max du Preez as one of the guest speakers.
