The countdown has begun to the 140th Bloem Show in the Free State capital. There are 21 days remaining to celebrating this milestone of the largest consumer exhibition in central South Africa from 27 April until 6 May.
“We are particularly looking forward to this year’s show and celebrating the special milestone. It is an incredible occasion,” said Elmarie Prinsloo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bloem Show.
“I think very few people realise how small the number of institutions is that have been in existence for 140 years. I always say I was not there in the beginning, but it is a wonderful privilege to be here now!”
This year’s edition of Bloem Show is set to wow visitors with a great programme focused on entertainment, ranging from 21 agriculture championships to a variety of outdoor exhibitions, tasty food stalls, and a new approach towards indoor exhibitions.
Prinsloo said exhibition halls would be divided into targeted segments with the focus on quality and diversity.
“Indoor exhibitor categories are: eco-friendly – gardens, landscaping, solar and water; hi-tech – audio, electronics, cellular and technology; home decor – arts and furniture, outdoor, camping and DIY; as well as clothing, shoes, bags, hair and beauty, Makro, gaming. Also a focus from baby to students, a play area, eateries and drinks,” said Prinsloo.
Visitors who buy tickets before 26 April at 17:00, qualify for a special discount. There is a R10 discount on admission tickets, excluding half-price day.
Visitors are reminded that once admitted, the artist performances can be attended free of charge.
The original tickets purchased from computicket.com can be exchanged at the fun fair office for tokens, and this will remain valid for any day of the show. For R600, visitors will get 48 tokens instead of the normal 24.
Unlimited fun fair rides usually cost R300, but until 26 April it is only R250. Rides are valid until 21:00 on the day, and tickets are limited. The original ticket from Computicket can be exchanged at the Fun Fair office for an armband on the day.
Special provision has been made for people celebrating their birthday from 27 April to 6 May. They qualify for a free admission ticket that can be collected, with proof of identity, at the Bloem Show office on the showgrounds or by sending an email to info@bloemshow.co.za by Friday, 21 April.
Admission prices are halved on Wednesday, 3 May. Normal admission fees are R100 for adults, and R50 for senior citizens (60 years and over), students and children older than six years. Children younger than six years may enter free of charge.
The student bus shuttle package, which includes transport and admission, is a first for Bloem Show and available for R60 on 28 April and 5 May, and 29 April and 6 May. On half-price day (3 May) these services cost only R35. Visitors should note that pre-sales apply, and the schedule for arrivals and departures are available online.
