The programme of the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (Pacofs) for February and March includes something to captivate young audiences.
Two productions for children, Die prinses en die trolle and Bitla la Marena, will be on stage in the André Huguenet Theatre from Thursday (24/02) to Saturday and from 10 to 12 March.
Die prinses en die trolle (The Princess and the Trolls) is a production that tells the story of a young princess who secretly befriends a troll in the woods near her castle, even though trolls are perceived to be scary and malevolent.
The troll, being raised to hunt and kill humans, is very fond of the little princess. However, when war breaks out in the kingdom, the two friends are forced to choose between their friendship and their families.
The story teaches the importance of overcoming differences – looking past someone’s “outside” and focusing on their “inside”.
The Sotho production Bitla la Marena (The Royal Tomb), tells the story of Rakotsoane, the cannibal who killed and ate the village father Peete.
This becomes a true test of the character and leadership of King Moshoeshoe, who is at odds with the majority of the village elders and his brother Posholi, when they want to bring torture and death upon Rakotsoane.
- Tickets cost R50 per person and R30 for a group of more than five people for Die prinses en die trolle, and R90 per person for Bitla la Marena.
