Donation keeps woman’s humanitarian spirit thriving

A group of 14 learners at the Kamohelo Primary School in Bloemfontein, received much-needed support in brand-new pairs of shoes and socks.

This is thanks to the Palesa Foundation, which donated these essentials to celebrate her birthday on Monday, 15 July.

The recipients, 11 girls and 14 boys, each received a pair of shoes and socks. They had been identified as being from poverty-stricken households.

The gesture by the foundation celebrated the birthday of the late Palesa Matumelo Moeketsi, who was born on 15 July.

She tragically died in an accident in September last year. She would have turned 26 this year.

Her parents, Daniel and Doreen Moeketsi, established the foundation with support from close family and friends of Palesa.

Shoes donation

“The foundation is keeping alive Palesa’s spirit of being a good Samaritan; we fondly remember her for helping poverty-stricken children. She had compassion and helped needy children – therefore the decision to assist learners in real need of support, in the form of shoes to pursue the dream of better education and a better future, resonates well with Palesa’s spirit,” said Daniel.

He said he was grateful to Palesa’s friends, who support the foundation to keep her humanitarian spirit alive and encouraged them to continue supporting children in dire situations for a better tomorrow.

Queen Magalakangqa, Kamohelo’s headmistress, said most of the 1 371 learners enrolled at the school were from impoverished households and their parents struggle to provide, because they are jobless.

“We are really grateful for the help from the Palesa Foundation, supporting the group that really needed assistance,” said Magalakangqa.
