Bloemcare has positively changed the lives of two learners of the Tswellang Special School in Bloemfontein, donating a wheelchair to each. The recipients are Omogolo Matsietsa (9) and Lesedi Mashego (12).
It is envisaged that the wheelchairs will play a far-reaching role in improving their well-being.
The immediate change they will be able to experience, is how the wheelchairs improve their mobility to participate in school programmes. This will have a ripple effect, for instance also improving their opportunities for learning.
Bloemcare donated the wheelchairs on Monday, 15 July, at an event hosted to celebrate the hospital’s 25 years of existance.
This gesture of goodwill was made in response to helping address the school’s wheelchair challenge. This is also part of the private hospital’s community social investment to support charity organisations.
Hannetjie Steyl, senior therapist at Tswellang, says that the school relies heavily on private donors to address the learners’ mobility needs.
She emphasises that as an immediate change, the wheelchairs would enable the two learners to become self-reliant and productive.
Steyl says the school is grateful for Bloemcare’s gesture, as this also raises public awareness about the needs of people with disabilities.
