Disaster relief welcomed in FS

Free State Agriculture (FSA) has called for transparency in the allocation of disaster funds in the province.

Free State Agriculture (FSA) has called for transparency in the allocation of disaster funds in the province.

This follows the classification of a national state of disaster in the Free State due to heavy rains and flooding.

According to Dr Jack Armour, FSA commercial manager, the organisation has welcomed the classification that acknowledges the disaster, as well as the prioritisation of budgets and other resources for further flood damage prevention and relief measures.

“Transparency in the allocation of funds is now critical given the history of corruption in previous disaster allocations,” he said.

“The fact that the National Disaster Management Centre has taken control of the national disaster is encouraging. We welcome the good cooperation with Agri SA at national level and between the FSA, the Provincial Disaster Management Centre and the Department of Agriculture on provincial level.”

The FSA has made an urgent plea that funds be reallocated to the Free State Department of Roads.
