The Harrismith Regional Court has sentenced a foreign national, Tafadzwa Nhire (41), to 20 years direct imprisonment on 25 May.
This followed a conviction after damaging a Transet diesel pipeline and theft in 2020. The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Bethlehem investigated the case.
Capt. Christopher Singo, Hawks spokesperson, said the police seized a truck and two tankers with 58 681 litres of diesel, estimated worth more than R800 000.
The truck pulling two tankers got stuck on Highway Junction in Harrismith, leading to Nhire’s arrest.
