Property owners renting out accommodation to students of the Central University of Technology (CUT) have until 31 May to submit documentation pertaining to the accreditation of their premises for this purpose. Students have the same deadline for confirming lease agreements.
The institution stated that no further extension would be granted for submission.
Property owners must ensure that essential overhead expenses – relating to water, power and WiFi, for instance – are included in the rental amount in line with guidelines and requirements stipulated by the Department of Higher Education and Training and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). A team from the university will conduct an inspection and payments for student accommodation will be made directly into property owners’ bank accounts.
Students who fail to submit lease agreement documentation will automatically be provided with a transport allowance instead of receiving aid for accomodation.
