Creative crafters specialising in the production of corporate gifts are encouraged to enter this year’s National Craft Awards (NCA) competition, offering R200 000 in prize money.

It makes provision for 16 talented South African artisans.

Prizes are offered to four candidates in each of the categories: corporate gifts, souvenirs or memorabilia, crafts made from recycled materials, and one-of-a-kind signature pieces.

Prizes range from R20 000 for first place, R15 000 for the second position and R10 000 for third place, to R5 000 for placing fourth. Entries close at midnight on 28 October.

Crafters are invited to submit entries in the following disciplines: grass weaving, ceramics, beadwork, wirework, wood, jewellery, paper, fabric painting and printing, quilting, leatherwork, pewter, glasswork, embroidery and mixed media. They may also mark their entries for consideration in the specific categories outlined.

Entrants must submit a high-resolution photo of their crafted items, along with their details (name, surname, town and province in which they live, as well as contact information), and send a WhatsApp message to 071-621-3597, or email it to crafts@nationalcraftawards.co.za.

Visit nationalcraftawards.co.za or the National Craft Awards Facebook page for terms and conditions.

This is the sixth NCA competition, financed by the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and organised by Art Aid Africa.

It aims at recognising excellence in South Africa’s diverse craft sector.

The competition is renowned for the outstanding quality of entries and the high calibre of judging. The awards have set the benchmark for rewarding excellence, showcasing South African crafters’ creativity and talent.
