Recipients of the special Covid-19 social relief of distress (SRD) grant are advised to apply online and should not go to Sassa offices.

Recipients of the special Covid-19 social relief of distress (SRD) grant are advised to apply online and should not go to Sassa offices.

This is the advice given after Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa announced during the State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Thursday (10/02) the extention of the availability of the grant by 12 months – April 2022 to March 2023.

It is also important to note that various amendments to applications can be made online, at srd.sassa.gov.za.

The details of those who have already received this grant have been captured on the system, and therefore these grant recipients are not required to reapply.

All recipients who were previously paid through the South African Post Office are encouraged to get bank accounts and upload details to the aforementioned Sassa website for the money to be paid into their personal accounts upon approval. All bank accounts are subject to bank verification. Both previous recipients and new applicants are advised to ensure that all banking details are correct and that the account is in the name of the applicant for the SRD grant.

Those whose application for this special grant of R350 was declined, can lodge a request for review on the website or dial 0800-601-011 and select option three for officials to lodge a request for reconsideration on their behalf.

Those with declined applications who already lodged reconsideration applications need not reapply. However, reconsideration should be lodged for each month declined.

Those whose applications have been approved, but who were not yet paid by end of January, will be paid through existing payment channels: the Post Office or direct deposits into personal bank accounts.
