August is National Organ and tissue awareness month in South Africa. The drive encourages the public to donate organs to save lives.
The campaign supports the World Organ Donation Day observed on 13 August every year with the objective to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Approximately 4 300 people are waiting for a life-saving organ or cornea transplant in South Africa, but only 0,2% of our population are registered organ donors.
