Premiership side Marumo Gallants FC will only play domestic league matches in Bloemfontein, while CAF Confederation Cup fixtures will be played in Johannesburg.

Rufus Matsena, media and liaison manager, has explained the decision to play all continental fixtures in Gauteng was taken long ago, before the team’s decision to relocate to the Free State’s capital.

He said the club would abide by the decision, given the CAF had also completed inspections of the club’s hosting venues in Johannesburg.

The team relocated to Bloemfontein recently and has since played just one game, against Mamelodi Sundowns. This fixture was the Nedbank Cup last-16 group elimination match played at the Free State Stadium.

Gallants is chasing continental cup glory and is on the verge of qualifying for a knockout.

The team strengthened its chances to do so by beating USM Alger by 2 – 0 on Wednesday (08/03) to claim the top spot in group A with nine points, while Alger is in second place with seven points.

Victory for Gallants on Sunday (19/03), against Al Akhdar SC will see the team cement its place at the helm.

Raymond Mdaka, head coach, said the good run in the continental competition had inspired his charges to challenge and apply themselves for the cup glory, despite their dismal run in the domestic league.
