The 18 clubs campaigning in the Free State stream of the ABC Motsepe League will be returning to action after the festive recess. Some will be completing the first round of the competition, while those already in the second half will continue their battle to improve their respective positions on the league table.
African Warriors, D’ General and FC Black Cross are the three clubs still unbeaten in the provincial league competition.
As the league resumes on Saturday (28/01), the three teams’ current standing make them crowd favourites to be crowned the Free State champions when the season concludes in May this year.
The league championship resumes with two matches.
The stream B fixture will see the Bloemfontein Eagles and the Central University of Technology (CUT), Bloemfontein campus, battle it out.
The stream A match will be between Bloemfontein Young Tigers and Buffalo.
The latter side boasts 18 points from eight league matches played thus far, while Tigers have a mere nine points after participating in nine matches.
The CUT men’s outfit boast 14 points, and the Eagles ten points. Both sides have played nine fixtures, and of those nine have won four and three matches, respectively.
The rest of the clubs are expected to return to full action starting 10 February.
Each team is focused on continuing the challenging quest of claiming the provincial title and competing for the promotion to the National First Division (NFD).
Last year’s Free State winner Dikwena United failed to gain a promotion to the country’s second highest professional rank. The club is among the contenders for the provincial title.
