Africa Day, observed on 25 May, was celebrated in different forms. A Miss Africa Day pageant was held as part of festivities at Bloem Plaza in Bloemfontein. Participants represented seven African countries. This year the 59th anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity, now known as the African Union (AU), was marked.
