A group of women from Bloemfontein will showcase their courage when participating in Miss Cancer Survivor on 29 October.
The group of 16 women will take to the runway to display their bravery with the objective to inspire other survivors.
The pageant ties in with campaigns promoting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This contest will also make provision for participation in an aerobics session in Bloem Plaza on Saturday (15/10).
Most of the contestants are from Reach For Recovery, a non-profit organisation offering emotional and practical support to people diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.
“We encourage other cancer survivors to participate in activities that give hope and showcase their talent,” said Samuel Leeuw of the Chief Leeuw Foundation, which organises the event.
“Cancer is beatable with support, henceforth we organised a pageant exclusively for cancer survivors.
“After the participation of numerous cancer survivors in a photo shoot last year, we thought it was necessary to support and encourage them to also participate actively in programmes promoting cancer awareness. This allows them to become ambassadors,” Leeuw explained.
He further confirmed that contestants for the Miss Cancer Survivor pageant were being supported by other pageant winners and finalists for this year’s edition of Mrs. Mangaung Build It.
