Bloemfontein-based amateur football club Super Lions has attained promotion to the third division.

The victorious side was promoted along with Unstoppable FC from Wepener.

Both clubs will compete in the SAB League in the new season of 2022-’23.

Lions outclassed Unstoppable by 3 – 0 in the final of the promotion play-offs to claim the big prize plus the floating trophy.

Lions had disposed of local rivals Mighty Lions by 1 – 0 at the preliminary play-offs that also decided the Bloemfontein champion of the Safa Interstate Bus Lines (IBL) League.

The victorious Lions claimed a floating trophy, R12 500 in prize money and the gold medal, while their opponents received R8 000 and the silver medal as the runner-up.

Unstoppable had beaten Real Angles FC from Thaba Nchu by 4 – 0 in order to secure a second slot in the third division, and they took home silver medals for their effort.

This was the first time the Wepener-based side reached the play-offs.

The triumphant Lions’ achievement means they atoned for last year’s failure, when they were defeated by Dikoena Stars in the final.
