The death of award-winning journalist and book author Teboho Letshaba has sent a shock wave through the media industry. According to a statement issued by his employer, SABC, the versatile media personality passed away after a short illness.
Letshaba (40), born and bred in Viljoenskroon, was based at the broadcaster’s bureau in Bloemfontein. He held the position of provincial editor in the Free State, having held other managerial positions within the broadcaster. The details of his memorial service and funeral are yet to be announced.
Scores of people have expressed their shock at Letshaba’s death through messages of condolences . Social media has been flooded with messages of shock.
“A dear friend of mine has passed on. Teboho Letshaba. I am speechless. Words fail me,” said Motale “Magentz” Sebego, his colleague.
Letshaba’s stint with the broadcaster spans 15 years, having started as a reporter at the Bloemfontein office in 2008. He was a well-rounded journalist, covering hard news and sports.
Letshaba’s versatility was illustrated by taking up roles of reading news bulletins on Lesedi FM radio when duty called. His passion and dedication saw him duly rewarded with appointment to managerial positions within the ranks of the broadcaster. He became an assignment editor then later a programme manager at Motsweding FM.
Rastman, as he was known, was an avid reader, football fanatic and law graduate.
“Letshaba led the SABC’s Free State news and current affairs division with distinction and passion,” said broadcaster stated.
Letshaba had prestigious feathers in his cap, with a degree in law and media studies. He passed away while busy with his PHD. Also known as The People’s Advocate on social media among followers, Letshaba was an author of note and published Sotho literature books. He authored the through-provoking literature books Lejwe la Kgopiso, Ntshunyakgare and Pelong Ya Lerato, rated on GoodReads with 27 ratings. These books were published between 2008 and 2015.
