The Central University of Technology Innovation Services (CUTis) has been running an application process for entrepreneurs venturing into snack food and functional beverage production. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday (24/04).

Those involved in the production of foods such as snacks, biscuits and non-alcoholic beverages can apply for this opportunity.

A functional beverage is a drink that contains health-boosting ingredients, such as vitamins, minerals and herbs, that offer specific benefits beyond basic nutrition. Entrepreneurs involved in the production of such non-alcoholic beverages qualify.

Successful candidates whose business ideas are chosen will receive mentorship on the pitching of their enterprising proposals and will also be included in a start-up acceleration programme to help develop their ideas into fully-fledged businesses.

A total of R150 000 in prize money is involved.

In addition to these offerings is a venture management service for the winning project, which will involve the provision of consulting services, courtesy of Admond Capital, CUTis and the Tiger Brands Venture Capital Fund.

Entrepreneurs, especially youth who have an idea for affordable and innovative consumer options, are encouraged to apply before the closing date.

Aimed at unlocking entrepreneurial success, the initiative forms part of the university’s vision to grow small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to become sustainable, and create job opportunities and self-employment.
