The two men arrested in connection with drug dealing in Free State town Edenburg are remanded in custody while investigation is ongoing.

Shanyana Ntoahae (33) and Tiisetso Hloai (23) appeared briefly in Edenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday (15/08).

They face charges of dealing drugs after the police discovered 80 Mandrax tablets in an RDP house in the township during an operation conducted last Thursday (11/08). This ongoing anti-crime operation is a joint initiative by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Crime Intelligence (CI), all based in Bloemfontein.

Capt. Christopher Singo, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the matter against the pair was postponed to 22 September for further investigation.

“During the search the police found the duo in possession of 80 mandrax tablets. The estimated value of the table is R4 000. The suspects were arrested for allegedly dealing with drugs,” said Singo.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court facing charges of dealing in drugs. This followed her arrest at a house in Molteno Street in Reitz Park.

Capt. Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, said drugs seized include: 110 medium packets of CAT drugs, 51 nyaope sachets and 66 Mandrax tablets. The estimated value of the drugs is worth R40 000 combined, according to Thakeng.

“The police searched the house, and the suspect voluntarily gave members a plastic bag containing drugs and cash,” he said.

Thakeng said the police reacted after receiving reliable information.
