Members of the public who do not already have a legal will are able to have a basic, valid one drafted by an attorney free of charge during National Wills Week.

Members of the public who do not already have a legal will are able to have a basic, valid one drafted by an attorney free of charge during National Wills Week.

This yearly campaign aimed at enhancing public awareness about the value of having this type of personal document drawn up, this year runs from Monday (12/09) to Friday.

A will and testament is a legal document that allows you to decide how your assets will be distributed after your passing. It ensures peace of mind, knowing that your wishes will be respected when you are gone.

If you pass away without a valid will, your assets will be distributed in terms of the Intestate Succession Act of 1987.

The rules of devolution in this act may not be in accordance with your actual last wishes.

This means your assets may not be left to the person of your choice, something you might not have wanted to have happen.
